What makes this solution designed specifically for these applications unique?   Andrew Gilligan: Storage as Transmission Assets (SATA) is a relatively simple but not widely known concept that offers new flexibility to the grid to meet capacity needs. Storage systems are deployed along transmission lines, mimicking the flow of electricity on transmission lines for supply or retrieval of power.   These applications represent a new important area where energy storage systems provide value, offering grid infrastructure planners more choices and flexible tools to redraw the global map of power networks. In power systems, as the share of renewable energy generation increases, a more flexible grid will allow better utilization of transmission lines and benefit grid customers.   Storage projects like "Virtual Transmission" in Australia and "Grid Booster" in Germany already have a combined installed capacity of over 3 GW, with the potential to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the global power system. They can accomplish this task in a faster time frame compared to traditional power infrastructure and with competitive costs and benefits.   The Ultrastack battery energy storage system unlocks additional functionality for battery energy storage systems for transmission network owners and operators. The storage system provides fast response times (less than 150 milliseconds) and operates with uptime exceeding 99% to meet the availability requirements of critical infrastructure.
